Sermon: “(un)Fair Trade”

“(un)Fair Trade”

(March 11, 2012) In a passage that perfectly illustrates the challenge of the Lenten season, Jesus instructs his disciples to face their own mortality and their own shortcomings, to take up their burdens and follow, and to weigh the value of their own souls, their own integrity, against anything and everything else. How do these words challenge us? Where are the places where we make our stands? What are we willing to trade, and what do we hold as too sacred to give away without forfeiting our lives? (Mark 8:31-38)

for Annie, who remains my model of courage and grace
