Sermon: Rest a While

sunset 8“Rest a While”

(August 9, 2009) In the midst of their important work of ministry, Jesus calls the disciples to come away with him and rest a while. We might like to say that this is in preparation for greater work ahead, but maybe that’s our way of trying to justify the need for rest, rather than seeing rest for what it is: God’s sacred time to reconnect and be in the presence of Christ. The sermon concluded with two minutes of silence (edited out of the recording), and I invite listeners to take a couple minutes of quiet as well. (Mark 6:30-34; 53-56)
