I’m participating in RethinkChurch’s Lenten Photo-a-Day Challenge as a way to build some personal introspection (see, I’m engaging the season, albeit reluctantly!) and connect with others who are thinking about church outside the box. Each day there is a word-prompt (and a devotional, if you sign up for the email), with an invitation to post a picture.

These are all so amazing, but I especially like Friday’s, the way the reflection looks almost like a face, with eyelashes constructed from the feathery branches of a tree. It wasn’t until I was in college, walking along the broken sidewalks from my apartment to campus, that I noticed the sky reflected in the puddles for the first time. It seems odd now that if I had not been so depressed, if my eyes had not been so firmly fixed on the ground just inches ahead of my footsteps, I might never have seen the fragments of sky in each puddle.
